Angelina Jolie and Johnny Depp put together their charms and acting talents in this film, which is nothing more than a trip to Venice via TGV. I had to watch this film for several reasons. First of all, I was curious and curiosity is never a crime. Second of all, it was filmed in one of the most romantic cities in the world (after Paris and Prague), Venice, so it had to be at least interesting, filled with «awwww» and «I wish I was there right now» moments. And last but not least, Johnny Depp is always fun to watch.
The story is about Elise (Angelina Jolie) who is being followed by Scotland Yard because she has connections and communicates with one of their most wanted faces, Alexander Pearce. When she receives a letter from him while sitting at a cafe in Paris, she takes a train to Venice. Inside the train is a mathematics teacher (Johnny Depp) who is shocked by how beautiful she is. Upon arriving in Venice she helps him find a humble place to stay (a suite in a 5 star hotel) and gets him into a lot of trouble. Of course after time a mutual attraction between them happens.
The scenery in this film is amazing and we get to see a lot of beautiful sights from Venice (like the Santa Lucia train station). But overall the plot didn’t convince me that much, and despite the last minute twist it still didn’t quite satisfy me. However, it is a nice film if you want to watch something simple and have a good time.
Film bonus? The charming Raoul Bova!!! He appears just for a few seconds, but he is a fine example of how sexy Italian men are. I know it’s become a cliche, like how they flirt a lot, but I am a fan of this cliche, thank you very much!
